This elective is designed to expose students to a fast-advancing field of personalized medicine based on the study of genetic variations, called pharmacogenomics. Pharmacogenomics is concerned with identifying the genetic differences that lead to variable therapeutic as well as toxic responses to drugs. Increasing use of a selective regime of potent therapeutic agents in past decades has contributed to enhanced patient survival with a significantly better quality of life.
