As of July 1, 2013, South University no longer accepts applications for entrance into the Associate of Science in Accounting program offered online or on ground.

The Associate of Science in Accounting degree program is designed to provide students with the appropriate background, knowledge, and skills they need to seek entry-level employment in the field of accounting and bookkeeping. Graduates are prepared to seek entry-level employment in such diverse sectors as business, health, government, education, manufacturing, and social services. To acquire the broad based flexibility to enter these areas, students have the opportunity to learn the accounting cycle, accounting procedures for merchandising, and the basics of cost accounting. In addition, they can learn how to work with balance sheets, income statements, and statements of changes in financial position and how to prepare a statement of cash flow. The program is designed to provide a strong academic foundation in order to give graduates the opportunity to seek entry into the Bachelor of Business Administration degree program.

Program Student Learning Outcomes

Graduates will be able to:

1. Demonstrate an awareness of how culture, society, ethics, law, politics, technology, and economic principles impact the actions and decisions of accounting professionals.
2. Demonstrate an ability to use accounting procedures for entry-level financial and cost accounting.
3. Prepare a balance sheet, an income statement, and a statement of cash flow from financial accounting procedures and internal decision-making reports from cost accounting procedures.
4. Demonstrate an ability to use accounting software in organizational operations.
5. Demonstrate an ability to communicate clearly, both orally and in writing, their understanding of and solutions for common accounting problems.
6. Demonstrate proficient use of information technology in an accounting environment.
7. Demonstrate effective teamwork skills in an accounting environment.
8. Demonstrate an ability to apply quantitative analysis and critical thinking skills to analyze accounting problems.
